VfB Lübeck is close to promotion to the 3rd division and currently welcomes a popular training guest.
In the Regionalliga Nord, there is basically already clarity at the top a few weeks before the end of the season. VfB Lübeck leads the table and has an eleven-point advantage over third-placed FC Teutonia Ottensen nine matchdays before the end of the season.
The runner-up, the Hamburger SV U23, has not applied for a licence and is therefore no longer a competitor for VfB Lübeck. While the professionals are working on promotion, a prominent ex-professional has been keeping fit at VfB for a few days.
And that is striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga. The 31-year-old, who played seven years for Schalke and one year for Rot-Weiss Essen as a youth player, has been without a club since 1 July 2022. He previously played for Al-Khor SC – he moved to the Qatar Stars League in 2019 – but only made 34 competitive appearances in three years.
While things went well in the first year, they went downhill after that. Now Lasogga, who can look back on 128 Bundesliga games (34 goals), wants to start anew.
Now Lasogga has been keeping fit in Lübeck since Monday: “It was a lot of fun, the boys are all very nice and I was well received. I hope to stay fit for the next few weeks, get fit and maybe help the boys a bit in training. It was a very nice day of football,” Lasogga told “MOPO”.
According to Sebastian Harms, sporting director of Lübeck, the end is open, Lasogga is welcome to stay. Whereby it is considered unlikely that both sides will end up working together in the 3rd league.
