FSV Zwickau has to work on two construction sites. Building a squad and solving financial problems.
After relegation from the 3rd division, FSV Zwickau has to make a completely new start. And this is fraught with problems.
A new squad is needed, and two new players have been signed who have proven themselves in training under new coach Rico Schmitt. One of them is a player who is well-known in the region and who played for BVB II and Rot-Weiss Essen.
Defensive midfielder Felix Schlüsselburg will start for FSV immediately. He moved from BVB’s U23 to RWE in 2020, but didn’t get a chance to play there. He then moved on to SV Lippstadt, and most recently played for Rot Weiss Ahlen.
Lloyd-Addo Kuffour is also moving to FSV Zwickau. He also last played for Rot Weiss Ahlen and was trained at BVB. The 21-year-old former German junior international is at home on the left wing. Both players signed two-year contracts until 30 June 2025.
In addition to the new personnel for the upcoming season in the Regionalliga, FSV also needs to generate fresh money. According to reports, a six-figure sum is missing. Among other things, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched to raise 250,000 euros. The FSV Zwickau supporters’ association has already warned that the club will be deleted from the register of associations.
The motto of the campaign: Football belongs to the fans. A first paragraph reports: “We need your support for honest and sustainable football, without investors. Without you, the lights go out in Zwickau.”
As of Wednesday, 2591 donors have donated 176,696 euros. There will also be fresh capital this weekend, as a saviour match against Dynamo Dresden is scheduled for Saturday (22 July, 3pm). The proceeds will go 100 per cent to FSV Zwickau.
