Benjamin Goller, former FC Schalke talent, leaves Bundesliga side Werder Bremen to join 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2. Bundesliga.
Benjamin Goller is leaving Werder Bremen to join 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2nd Bundesliga. This was officially announced by the Bundesliga club on Sunday. The former FC Schalke talent is already in Nuremberg and will take part in the training of the second division club as early as Monday.
“Benni had played a good preparation before he was set back by an injury,” Clemens Fritz, head of scouting and professional football at Werder, is quoted as saying on the club’s own media. “Afterwards, he was not able to get the playing practice he would have liked, so now he would like to take on a new challenge. “
Federal League breakthrough postponed
The 23-year-old moved to the Weser from FC Schalke in 2019. The breakthrough at Königsblau had eluded him. He only played one professional game in the Champions League. He made eleven appearances for the second team (one goal, one assist), for the U19s he scored 17 goals in 60 games and set up another 26.
In Bremen, Goller had hoped to establish himself with a Bundesliga club. After three temporary loan spells in League Two at Karlsruher SC, Darmstadt 98 and again Karlsruhe, this attempt failed again for the time being after six months at Werder. The right-winger has been granted permission to train with Nuremberg and prepare for the second half of the season. His contract would have expired next summer, the transfer fee is said to be 600 thousand euros.
