Until last summer, Leo Scienza played for FC Schalke 04’s U23s, then he moved to 1. FC Magdeburg. He was suspended from the second division team.
Last season, Leo Scienza was one of the most eye-catching players in the Regionalliga West. With eleven goals and twelve assists for the U23 of FC Schalke 04, he was among the top scorers in the league and hoped for a breakthrough in the professional team of the Königsblauen – in vain.
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old Brazilian with a Luxembourg passport fulfilled his dream of playing professional football. Before the current season, he moved to 1. FC Magdeburg, a team promoted to the second division.
However, things have been bumpy for Scienza there. So far, he has not played a major role under former RWE coach Christian Titz. And now the nimble offensive man has experienced a new low.
He was suspended from the second division team and is currently only training with the second team. The reason for this is indiscipline, as the FCM announced when asked, without going into further detail.
What Scienza’s prospects are in the professional squad is uncertain. In fact, he has yet to make an appearance this year, last taking to the pitch in November. Scienza has played eleven games in the second division this season, only two of them from the start. He did not score a goal.
When signing the fine technician, sporting director Otmar Schork emphasised: “We have a lot of confidence in him and are convinced that he will assert himself in the 2nd Bundesliga.
It is possible that Scienza will succeed with some delay. For the time being, however, he will have to train with the sixth-class U23 team.
