Ex-Schalker Philipp Max: That’s why he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt

Former Schalke player Philipp Max is hoping his move to Eintracht Frankfurt will give him a further boost to his career.

On the last day of the transfer period, Eintracht Frankfurt had strengthened itself with Philipp Max. The former great FC Schalke 04 talent is thus returning to the Bundesliga after almost two and a half years at PSV Eindhoven. “At 29, this is now a huge opportunity to go full throttle again in the Bundesliga, just to show my face,” said the left-back. There’s no question about it: the ex-Schalker expects his move to give his career another boost. “Lately, the longing on my part has been huge to be allowed to play in the Bundesliga again. It is my wish to stay here in Frankfurt for the longer term.”

The Max transfer from PSV Eindhoven to the Europa League winners had been announced by the Hessians on the last day of the winter transfer window. The full-back will initially be loaned out until the end of the season, after which there will also be an option to buy. “The last few days before the transfer deadline were very hectic,” said the professional footballer. “When the opportunity arose to come to Eintracht, I didn’t have to think long. Eintracht’s path has been sensational, marked by success.”

The experienced defender made his Bundesliga debut in the 2013/14 season in the jersey of FC Schalke 04, for whom his father Martin Max played as a striker for four years in the 1990s. Max also played 49 times (19 goals, 7 assists) for the Schalker U19s and also made 54 appearances (3, 17) for the FC Schalke 04 U23 team. After that, he had played for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga between 2015 and 2020, among others.

Philipp Max will also meet his former Eindhoven clubmate Mario Götze on the Main. “He is simply sensational at finding spaces,” he said of the playmaker and former World Cup winner. Max has played in three international matches so far, and a return to the German side is of course also a goal: “The Bundesliga is more in focus there.” The Eintracht newcomer has recently been struggling with a flu infection in the Netherlands, but is ready for action on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) against Hertha BSC: “The first training session was great. I’m fit. “
