Ex-Uerdinger probably a candidate for VfB Stuttgart coach

After the convincing 4:1 victory against VfL Bochum, VfB Stuttgart are still looking for a coach. A Dane who played for Uerdingen as a player could be a possibility.

Less than a month after his sacking as coach of Champions League participants FC Copenhagen, Danish Jess Thorup is reportedly in talks with VfB Stuttgart. The Danish tabloid “B.T.” reported on Sunday that the 52-year-old is close to becoming head coach at the Swabian Bundesliga club.

Thorup has already been to Stuttgart for talks with his agent about the job, the newspaper reported, documenting the whole thing with pictures of the coach on site. The “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” also reported on Sunday that Thorup was in Stuttgart for talks. According to the report, however, there is still a second candidate in the running to succeed the suspended Pellegrino Matarazzo and interim coach Michael Wimmer.

The crisis-ridden FC Copenhagen parted ways with Thorup almost four weeks ago. His position was taken over by the previous co-coach Jacob Neestrup. As an active player, Thorup had once played for KFC Uerdingen, among others.
