Rot-Weiss Essen played a test match in the Netherlands on Tuesday (13 September, 2 pm). Their opponents were first division side Go Ahead Eagles Deventer.
Rot-Weiss Essen started the week with a total of three matches with a test match defeat.
In a closed-door test match, RWE lost 2-1 (1-1) to Dutch Eredivisie club Go Ahead Eagles Deventer, who started the season with just one point from six games. The RWE goal to equalise in the meantime was scored by Felix Bastians (40th, penalty).
In contrast to the 0:1 defeat at VfL Osnabrück, Christoph Dabrowski rotated in four positions. Mustafa Kourouma, Oguzhan Kefkir, Björn Rother and Aurel Loubongo replaced Isaiah Young, Daniel Heber, Clemens Fandrich and Niklas Tarnat.
After an even start without any goal chances worth mentioning, the Dutch first division team took the lead after 25 minutes from the thick of the action. Felix Bastians equalised the Eagles’ 1:0 lead just before the break. The veteran was successful with a penalty kick (40th), which Loubongo had taken earlier.
The Deventer club took the lead again after 70 minutes. A shot from around 20 metres deflected behind substitute goalkeeper Raphael Koczor and into the RWE box.
The next match for Rot-Weiss Essen will be on Wednesday. From 7.30 p.m. onwards, the 2nd Lower Rhine Cup round will be played at Landesliga team 1. FC Wülfrath (IMS Arena Velbert). The next league match will kick off on Monday at 7 pm. Then the so far unbeaten 1. FC Saarbrücken will be our guests in the stadium at the Hafenstraße.
