SV Wehen Wiesbaden has won a test match against a top team from the 2nd Bundesliga. This success came at a high price.
Like so many professional teams at the moment, SV Wehen Wiesbaden is using the international break to test its form. And the Hessians are in very good shape.
Third-division side Wehen Wiesbaden won 3-1 against Karlsruher SC, who are fourth in the German second division, just one point behind leaders Fortuna Düsseldorf.
“We put in a very decent performance against a top team from the 2nd Bundesliga. It was important for us to give every player at least 45 minutes of playing time and we are very satisfied with how everyone performed. We had good control of the game and repeatedly pressed strongly. We are also delighted that we scored twice from corner kicks. That was the focus of our training this week and it paid off immediately. Overall, it was a very successful test,” summarized Nils Döring, head coach of SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
The second division relegation side are in third place in the 3. Liga after nine games – five wins, two draws, two defeats. They are only three points behind leaders SV Sandhausen. After the international break, SVWW will continue on Saturday, October 19, at 2 p.m. against Hannover 96 II.
One player will definitely not be involved. Wiesbaden paid dearly for their test victory over KSC. 26-year-old center back Marius Wegmann, who only joined SVWW from Würzburger Kickers in the summer, suffered a broken forearm and will need surgery. He will be out of action for several months. However, Wegmann has not played a role in coach Döring’s team this season.
