SV Wehen Wiesbaden has won a test match against a top team from the 2nd Bundesliga. This success came at a high price.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden, like so many professional teams at the moment, is using the international break to test its form. And: the team from Hessen is in very good shape.

The third division team Wehen Wiesbaden defeated Karlsruher SC, which is in fourth place in the German second division with 16 points, just one point behind second-place Fortuna Düsseldorf, 3-1.

“We put in a very decent performance against a top team in the Bundesliga 2. It was important to us to give every player at least 45 minutes of game time and we are very happy with how everyone performed. We had good control of the game and repeatedly applied strong pressing. We are also pleased that we scored twice from corner kicks. That was the focus of this training week and it has paid off immediately. Overall, it was a very successful test,” summarized Nils Döring, head coach of SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

The second division relegated team is in third place in the 3rd division after nine matches – five wins, two draws, two defeats. They are only three points behind league leaders SV Sandhausen. After the international break, SVWW will continue on Saturday, October 19, 2:00 p.m., against Hannover 96 II.

One player will definitely not be there, however, as Wiesbaden paid dearly for the victory over KSC. 26-year-old central defender Marius Wegmann, who only transferred to SVWW from Würzburger Kickers in the summer, suffered a broken forearm and will need surgery. He will be out of action for several months. However, Wegmann has not yet played a significant role for coach Döring’s team this season.
