Criticism of Eintracht fans from within the club itself. President Mathias Beck believes “success is at risk” as a result, but wants to remain in dialogue with the fan community.
The recent behavior of the active fan community of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt has drawn sharp criticism from within the club itself. “These things don’t just make me angry. The incidents in Cologne and Barcelona are causing us massive damage,” President Mathias Beck told the Bild newspaper. According to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Eintracht fans recently set off pyrotechnics, damaged toilets in the visitors’ area and threw objects during the Champions League away game at FC Barcelona. UEFA therefore decided that SGE would not be allowed to sell away tickets for the match against Qarabag Agdam in Azerbaijan on January 21. Following rulings by the DFB Sports Court, the club also had to pay penalties amounting to almost seven figures this year due to fan misconduct.
“It makes me very angry too, and of course something has to be done if it jeopardizes success,” said Beck, who has been in office since 2024 as Peter Fischer’s successor and wants to run again: “We, but above all the fan scene itself, have to get a handle on the issue, but we have to stay on top of it.” Board member Philipp Reschke is currently working on “solutions.”
Beck nevertheless wants to remain in contact with the fan community. Some danced “out of line to the detriment of everyone else. And that’s exactly why we can’t punish entire groups or condemn our fan community across the board,” said Beck: “We mustn’t drift too far apart, because then, I believe, we’ll have real problems.”
