Huge euphoria at Alemannia Aachen: The fans of the Kaiserstädter dream of returning to the paid football and are currently running the booth.
Alemannia Aachen wants to return to professional football after a ten-year absence. The traditional club last played in the 3rd division in the 2012/2013 season. Since then, Alemannia has been stuck in the Regional League West.
But in the 2023/2024 season, they could make a comeback to the third tier: After a disastrous start and the early leave of coach Helge Hohl, Heiner Backhaus took over and got Alemannia back on track. Aachen is currently top of the table due to its better goal difference.
The comeback – Alemannia Aachen only conceded one defeat in Bocholt under Backhaus – was also possible thanks to the great support of the fans. The Alemannia is “in” again in Aachen. 15,170 spectators on average make the pilgrimage to the black and yellow games, 7,780 season tickets have been sold. The away games, most recently around 2,500 Aachen fans in Mönchengladbach, feel like home games.
A double home game is coming up
And now it’s two games in a row at the Tivoli. On Saturday (February 10, 2 p.m.) Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is coming in the Regionalliga and four days later (Wednesday, February 14, 7:30 p.m.) Viktoria Cologne in the quarter-finals of the Middle Rhine Cup.
More than 15,500 tickets have already been sold for the Oberhausen game – as of Tuesday, February 6, 6:45 p.m. – and Alemannia is also expecting more than 15,000 fans against Viktoria Cologne – the supporters are currently flocking to the Alemannia.
Marcel Moberz, chairman of the supervisory board of Alemannia, is thrilled. He has been very active on social media for weeks and is once again pleased to report on Facebook: “We’ve cracked the 15,000 mark! There is still a huge rush! Thank you, thank you! More importantly, I would like to report on our team: the boys are focused and full of positive energy. Where there was still pressure at the beginning of the season, today there is only power. It is an honor for our boys to be at the top and they will do everything they can to defend it. In the 98/99 season, we had an average of 7,900 fans at the Tivoli. This season, there are already over 15,000! I think you can see how much the people of Aachen have found their way back to Alemannia and, at the same time, that a lot of hard work is being done at the Tivoli! The new approach zesame is simply working.”
