After the 3-0 win at FC Augsburg, Borussia Dortmund is on its way to the championship. The BVB supporters had a huge party.
Borussia Dortmund has the long-awaited goal close at hand. With a 3-0 win at FC Augsburg on Sunday, BVB took advantage of FC Bayern Munich’s slip-up and retook the Bundesliga lead one matchday before the end of the season. A win against FSV Mainz 05 would mean the first German championship since 2012. Sebastién Haller with a brace and Julian Brandt scored the celebrated goals in the second half.
The tension among the 5,000 BVB fans in Augsburg’s WWK Arena was also released in the final phase at the latest. The black-and-yellow supporters, who had already presented a choreography before the game, celebrated a loud party and had the clear mood sovereignty in the stadium.
In their victory frenzy, the Dortmund supporters also sent special greetings to local rival Schalke 04. To the tune of “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” from the film “The Life of Brian”, the BVB chant “Borussia Dortmund will be champion and Schalke will be relegated” resounded for minutes through the stadium.
Because while BVB enjoyed a perfect 33rd matchday, the situation for the Königsblauen has become much more precarious again this weekend. Although S04 at least picked up a point in the 2:2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, but because VfB Stuttgart won 4:1 at FSV Mainz 05 and VfL Bochum scored the 1-1 at Hertha BSC in injury time, Schalke slipped down to 17th place in the table and must fear relegation again after 2021.
Thomas Reis’ team will be hosting RB Leipzig next week – an enormously difficult task. In the event of a defeat, Schalke will definitely be relegated – it is quite possible that both will then be sung about again in Dortmund: Their own championship and Schalke’s relegation.
