FC Schalke 04’s test in Ulm during the upcoming international break is causing discussion among S04 fans. The reason is the ticket prices.
On 8 September, FC Schalke 04 will play a test match at SSV Ulm 1846 during the international break. Kick-off at the Donaustadion is at 6.30 pm. The clash with last year’s Regionalliga Südwest champions is a rematch of the DFB Cup second round match from the 2020/2021 season.
As is customary in this competition, the club with the lowest ranking normally enjoys home advantage. However, due to the Corona pandemic and the associated conditions, the match was played in Gelsenkirchen shortly before Christmas, with Schalke winning 3:1.
Both clubs had agreed at that time that S04 would play a test match in Ulm in return. This plan is now being put into practice. So far, so normal. But shortly after the announcement, the first criticism was voiced. The reason was the ticket prices.
The advance ticket prices for a seat are 22 euros (opposite stands) or 33 euros (main stand), and 16.50 euros for a standing room. In addition, there will be a shipping charge of five euros for the paper tickets if they cannot be collected free of charge from the ServiceCenter by 6 September. Tickets can be requested by S04 fans at tickets.schalke04.de until 12.04 p.m. on 25 August. There will be a surcharge of two euros per ticket at the box office.
“Cheeky for a test match,” said the first fans after our Schalke reporter Andreas Ernst wondered about the high prices on his Twitter channel. “They just want to make a profit with us,” others said.
The discussion, however, was a mixed one: It was also pointed out that the prices in Ulm were not that unusual in today’s times. “Rapid Wien was also 19.04 euros,” recalled one fan. “The test match against Paderborn was also that high, and so was the match in Ahlen for the second team,” wrote another.
