In the make-up match of the 3rd matchday of the Regionalliga West between SSVg Velbert and FC Gütersloh, the visitors won 1:0. What the coaches say.
FC Gütersloh won their second match of the season against SSVg Velbert in the 3rd matchday of the Regionalliga West with a goal by Kevin Freiberger (39th) with 1:0 (1:0).
The promoted team from Gütersloh has picked up eight points from six games so far and is in the top half of the table, at least for the time being. For Gütersloh coach Julian Hesse, however, it was a “lucky three”.
While the two teams had an open exchange of blows in the first half and there were chances on both sides, the home side from Velbert took command in the second half and put FC under a lot of pressure. Despite all their efforts on the offensive, the Velbert team could not score a goal.
“In the last few weeks I have often talked about how great we played football, but could not reward ourselves with a three-goal win. Against Velbert it was the other way around. We played a really shitty game, but we are happy to take the lucky three points with us,” Hesse summed up at the press conference afterwards.
Nevertheless, the visiting coach knew who to thank after the match and gave extra praise to the defence. “It wasn’t a good game of football, but still a big compliment to our goalkeeper, the back four and the double six, because they really worked away a lot,” the coach explained. “The boys are suffering and showed a great mentality.”
The other promoted side from SSVg Velbert, on the other hand, have only managed to pick up one three-pointer so far this season and have five points to their name after six games. For the team of head coach Dimitrios Pappas, the defeat against Gütersloh was the third loss in a row.
“The game against Gütersloh was the worst of the whole season. At the moment, we are just lacking a bit of luck. We’re creating chances up to the sixteen, but we’re just not finishing the attacks and that’s where we need to be,” Pappas summed up after the match.
We will lick our wounds, analyse the mistakes and continue to work on our goals.
Dimitrios Pappas
Pappas continued: “Sure, you can also praise the opposition’s defence and goalkeeper, but we also made it a bit easy for them by not getting a lot of balls to the man and we have to work on that. It’s back to business on Saturday and we don’t have much time to rest. We will lick our wounds, analyse the mistakes and keep working on our goals.”
On the upcoming matchday 7, SSVg Velbert will have another home game and will host 1. FC Bocholt. FC Gütersloh will face Fortuna Düsseldorf II next weekend.
