FCK lose touch – Nuremberg gain breathing space

1. FC Kaiserslautern, plagued by a wave of flu, lost sight of the top flight of the 2nd Bundesliga with a draw against SV Sandhausen.

The Palatinate team could not get beyond a 2:2 (1:1) draw at the Betzenberg. 1. FC Nuremberg gained some breathing space in the relegation battle with a 2:0 (0:0) against Eintracht Braunschweig.

In front of 39,779 spectators at the Betzenberg, Boris Tomiak (35th) and Kevin Kraus (76th, hand penalty after video evidence) initially put FCK in the lead after Ahmed Kutucu (8th) had gone behind early. However, it was not enough to win the match because Franck Evina (80th) scored the final goal.

One week after the defeat in Magdeburg, coach Dirk Schuster had to change his starting eleven on five positions due to a flu epidemic, among others, regular goalkeeper Andreas Luthe was absent. On the pitch, the next setback followed: The ex-Schalker Kutucu got through two Lauter players and scored from the corner of the penalty area to take the lead.

However, Tomiak and Kraus turned things around and left the fans dreaming of a fourth home win in a row – before Evina scored to make it 2:2.

Nuremberg, meanwhile, won for the second time in their third game under Dieter Hecking and extended their lead over the relegation zone to seven points with a 2-0 (0-0) win.

Florian Hübner (69th) and Jan Gyamerah (81st) scored the Nuremberg goals in front of 25,235 spectators, adding to the worries of Braunschweig, who could drop to a relegation place in the course of Matchday 24.
