After a two-goal comeback, SV Wehen Wiesbaden are on the verge of victory in the first leg of the relegation play-off in Regensburg. But Jahn strikes back.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden are still trembling to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the first leg of the relegation play-off at Jahn Regensburg, coach Nils Döring’s team only managed a 2:2 (0:1).
Wehen had finished 16th in the regular season, and only last summer Wiesbaden had been promoted to the 2nd division for the third time in the club’s history.
Regensburg striker Noah Ganaus (32) had put his team ahead in the first half. After the break, Wiesbaden’s Robin Heußer equalized in the 66th minute, shortly after which John Iredale (72) turned the game around. The lead did not last long, however, as Dominik Kother (80) had a Regensburg reply.
Wiesbaden prevailed in the deciding matches for promotion and relegation between the 2nd and 3rd divisions in 2019, Regensburg did so in 2012 and 2017. If the Hessians manage to avoid relegation in the second leg on Tuesday (20:30/Sky) in front of their own fans, they would be keeping their place in the 2nd division for only the second time in the club’s history – the last time they did so was in 2008.
