Fifth win in a row! 1860 Munich overtakes RWE and draws level with MSV

TSV 1860 Munich is well in the race for promotion after its fifth win in a row. The Lions won 1-0 at Viktoria Cologne, overtaking RWE and drawing level with MSV.

Despite the fifth win in a row, Lions coach Markus Kauczinski saw some shortcomings in his team’s play after the 1-0 win at FC Viktoria Cologne.

“I still think we need to improve our ball control. We lost the ball far too often and far too quickly again. That means we have to defend a lot. But we did that well. The team is putting in a lot of effort. At the moment, we simply have the instinct to be there at the decisive moment. We’ve grown even closer together,” said the TSV 1860 Munich coach.

The 56-year-old commented on equaling Michael Köllner’s third division record of five wins in a row with the Lions, saying: “That’s really completely uninteresting now. I’m glad that we came out of it unscathed here at Viktoria and managed to catch up. Now it’s time to recover, and then we still have a lot of difficult tasks ahead of us.”

Kauczinski had nothing but praise for the approximately 2,000 Löwen fans who made the long trip to Cologne on Friday evening. “The support is tremendous, as it was at the last home game. The noise level was incredible, and I think people sense that not everything is perfect, but that the team is fighting and playing with a lot of heart and passion.”

Viktoria coach Marian Wilhelm was disappointed. “We wanted three points, but when the final score is 0-1, then we didn’t deserve it. That’s football, unfortunately!”
