SSV Ulm has signed Mirnes Pepic. The former Duisburg player was most recently without a club and already knows his new coach Pavel Dotchev well from previous clubs.
SSV Ulm is having a disastrous season and, in 18th place, is deep in the relegation battle in the third division. Now, the second division relegation team has strengthened its squad once again, signing free agent midfielder Mirnes Pepic until the end of the season. The 29-year-old already trained with the team of new coach Pavel Dotchev on Tuesday. Born in Yugoslavia, Pepic, who has both German and Montenegrin citizenship, brings with him the experience of 186 third division games (eight goals, 14 assists) for Hansa Rostock, MSV Duisburg, Würzburger Kickers, SV Meppen and, most recently, Erzgebirge Aue.
He has also played 17 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and even made two appearances in the Bundesliga during his career. Pepic has already faced his new coach Dotchev several times in his career. The midfielder has played 89 games under the third division’s record-breaking coach, including four games in the Zebras’ jersey in the 2020/21 season.
“When the call came, I didn’t have to think twice. SSV Ulm 1846 Fussball is a great club and I really want to help us stay in the league. The fact that I grew up in the region and know the coach very well makes it easier for me to settle in Ulm,” says Pepic, delighted with his new role at the “Spatzen.”
SSV managing director Stephan Schwarz says: “In Mirnes Pepic, we are getting a very experienced player who can help us immediately, even though he hasn’t played in recent months. Pavel and Mirnes know each other very well, so we are glad that we were able to make this happen at short notice.”
Pepic could make his debut as early as this Saturday (November 29, 2 p.m.) in the home game against TSV 1860 Munich. After six defeats in a row, Ulm will be hoping to finally get back to winning ways against the Lions.
