Many promises were not kept, the end result is withdrawal. Bitter for 1. FC Kleve, bitter for the Bezirksliga Niederrhein 4.
There will only be 17 teams in Bezirksliga Niederrhein 4 in the coming season. This is because the U23s of 1. FC Kleve will forgo the right to compete.
The club announced that it had made the decision with a heavy heart not to compete in the district league with the 2nd men’s team in the coming season.
According to the club, the situation had developed in the wrong direction in recent weeks, so that the club now wanted to create planning security at an early stage.
The background: several players who had given FCK a commitment withdrew it. The situation is said to have been similar for new arrivals. Therefore, the decision was made in close consultation with the intended coach Marcel Zalewski not to compete in the district league in the coming season, as there is not enough player material available for a competitive district league team.
“I’m particularly sorry for Edwin Schaale, Hans Noy and Marcel Zalewski that this decision had to be made. They have made every effort to put together a strong team for the coming season. I would also like to thank the remaining players for their commitment to 1. FC Kleve right up to the end,” explained Kleve’s 1st chairman Christoph Thyssen. “In order to give the remaining players enough time to look for another opportunity to play, we already informed the players about the development on Thursday.”
