“Five defeats are just too many”

TuS Erndtebrück are the autumn champions of the Westfalenliga 2. However, the Oberliga relegated team can’t do much with that. The top teams are too close together.

Last summer, TuS Erndtebrück was relegated from the Oberliga Westfalen. Just half a year later, it seems as if their stay in the Westfalenliga 2 will end after just one season. The Erndtebrück team could well manage to get back into the league if it were not for the other teams, which are also at the top of the table.

There are only three points between first and sixth place. In this case, the title of autumn champions, which TuS Erndtebrück can put in their imaginary display cabinet, is worth nothing. But those in charge are aware of this.

Erndtebrück coach Michael Müller on…

the first half of the league season: “We are quite satisfied, especially after the major changes in the summer. I think we now have the second youngest team in the league. We wanted to do well and be up there with the leaders. The team is doing well in terms of character and we still have room for improvement. But five defeats are just too many. You have to admit that a young team like this one can have a run of three defeats in a row, we’ve learned from that. But on the whole, we’re satisfied with the first half of the season.”

What was your best moment? “That was the 5-0 win at Obercastrop. In the first half, it was still a close game, but then in the second half we did very well. But also the 2-1 win against Hombruch, when we turned the game around.”

What was your worst moment? “There’s nothing in particular that springs to mind. But the three defeats in a row were very bitter.”

Goals for 2024: “We want to continue to play well and get more points than in the first half of the season. There’s room for improvement. We have a team for the future. Promotion is not yet an issue at the club. It’s still a long way off. The league is so close at the top too.”
