The fog is lifting at SSV Ulm 1846. The sporting leadership is now back in place.
SSV Ulm 1846 has filled the vacant position of managing director and sporting director with Stephan Schwarz. The 55-year-old has signed a contract with the Spatzen until 2028. His contract officially starts on December 1, 2025, but he will take up his position at SSV with immediate effect. “When we first spoke to Stephan Schwarz, it was clear that he had a clear vision for the club. We are delighted that we were able to convince him and have thus realized our ideal overall solution. He brings with him an incredible amount of experience from various areas and clubs and will help us continue on our chosen path with his expertise,” said Dominik Schwärzel, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SSV Ulm 1846.
A few days ago, SSV already introduced Pavel Dotchev as its new coach. The experienced coach is tasked with preventing the Spatzen from being relegated to the Regionalliga Südwest. One level higher, Schwarz is now pulling the strings.
“I am very much looking forward to the task at SSV Ulm 1846 Football. I am very excited to be able to take on this challenge so close to my home and I am full of enthusiasm. The club has great potential, which I would like to tap into with the coaching team, the staff, the many fans and partners,” said Schwarz himself.

At the beginning of his career, Schwarz worked as a youth coach and later as a scout for VfB Stuttgart. He then moved to TSV 1860 Munich, initially as a scout and later as head scout. His path took him from TSG Hoffenheim to FC Augsburg. Here, too, he was head scout, rising to technical director in 2017. He worked for FCA for a total of over six years and was jointly responsible for the Bundesliga club’s sporting direction. Most recently, the Stuttgart native was sporting director at Grasshoppers Zurich.
At SSV Ulm 1846, Schwarz will assume overall responsibility as managing director, but will focus heavily on the sporting side of the club. The club is currently looking for another executive to take charge of finance and organization.
