For a promoted team, the first coach has to go

Five match days into the new season in the Regionalliga West, the first coach has already had to step down.

The current Regionalliga season had actually started well for Bonner SC. They kicked off with a 4-1 gala victory at VfL Bochum II, earning three points and putting them at the top of the table. But those were to be their only points up to and including the fifth match day. Now Sascha Glatzel, former head coach of the promoted team from the Rhineland, has to face the consequences and step down.

“Bonner SC has terminated its collaboration with head coach Sascha Glatzel with immediate effect. In view of the results of the past few weeks and the discernible trend, the board and the sporting management have decided to take this step,” the club wrote in a statement, leaving no doubt about the reasons for the separation.

“We have come to the conclusion that the team needs a new impetus in order to achieve the goals set for this season,” explained BSC chairman Matthias Möseler.

Points Table

He continued: “Sascha Glatzel has done a lot for our club during his tenure. Nevertheless, we believe that a change on the sidelines is necessary in the current situation.”

Sports director Daniel Zillken reinforced this statement: “The decision was very difficult for us and has been on our minds a lot in recent days. We now have to look positively to the future.” The club will provide information about a successor in due course. 1. FC Bocholt, one of the promotion candidates, is coming to Bonn’s Sportpark Nord.
