S04 striker Peter Remmert had to be substituted due to injury during the 0-1 defeat in Kaiserslautern. He will be out of action for the Royal Blues “until further notice.”
This is a bitter blow for FC Schalke 04 and especially for Peter Remmert: after making a strong debut in the starting line-up on the first matchday against Hertha BSC (2-1), the 20-year-old had to be substituted after picking up an injury in Saturday’s 0-1 defeat in Kaiserslautern. It is now clear that Remmert will have to take a break.
He suffered an ankle injury and, according to S04, will be out of action until further notice. The club did not provide any further details. Remmert will definitely miss the first round of the DFB Cup on Sunday (August 17, 3:30 p.m.) against 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig.
Remmert was injured in Kaiserslautern towards the middle of the first half. He landed awkwardly after a mid-air challenge. The youngster played on until half-time, when he was replaced by Emil Höjlund. Later, he was seen limping through the catacombs of the FCK stadium on crutches, with his ankle bandaged and ice packs on. “I hope it’s not too bad. But it doesn’t look good at the moment,” said coach Miron Muslic. In his first year, he only played in two competitive games, mostly for the U23s. However, he impressed in the preparations for the new season – so much so that Muslic selected him for the starting line-up against Hertha in the opening game. Remmert repaid the trust placed in him with an assist and a strong performance. Now comes the setback. Adrian Gantenbein was also unable to train with the team on Tuesday. The 24-year-old completed an individual program after also being substituted against Kaiserslautern due to injury. Schalke have not yet confirmed whether the right winger will be available for the cup match. Ilyes Hamache returned to training on Tuesday. The 22-year-old attacking player had been out with illness and also trained individually.
