Former Bayern talent arrives from the Austrian 2nd division

Alemannia Aachen are continuing to upgrade for the upcoming third division season. The internationally experienced Gianluca Gaudino arrives in the imperial city from Stripfing.

Alemannia Aachen have presented their eighth new summer signing – and his name is by no means unknown in Germany. Gianluca Gaudino is moving from Austrian second division club SV Stripfing to the imperial city. The 27-year-old is the son of former international Maurizio Gaudino, who played 294 Bundesliga games and won the 1991/92 championship with VfB Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, Gaudino Junior was able to call himself German champion twice at a young age. Gianluca, who is a little more defensive-minded than his father in the number eight position, joined FC Bayern Munich’s youth team at the age of seven, made the leap into the professional squad in 2014 and secured the trophy in 2014/15 and 2015/16. While he made eight appearances in the league and one each in the Super Cup, Cup and Champions League in 2014/15, he did not play a single minute in the following season and left the club in the winter, first on loan to FC St. Gallen and then permanently to Chievo Verona in Italy.

However, he did not find happiness there either, and so he moved to Young Boys Bern, for whom he played the longest in his career to date. He collected 79 appearances, seven goals, 16 assists, three league titles and one trophy between January 2019 and June 2021.

After brief spells at Sandhausen, Altach and Lausanne, he then moved on to Austrian second-division club SV Stripfing last February after six months without a club, where he has now left for Aachen after just three appearances. He missed a large part of the second half of the season through injury

I’ve heard a lot from the Alemannia fans and I’m really looking forward to experiencing it all for myself.

Gianluca Gaudino

“Gianluca has a lot of experience in various leagues and also has very good ball handling and vision. He always wants to put himself at the service of the team, which is at the top of his list when it comes to performing well on the pitch,” said Sascha Eller, Managing Director and Sports Director of Alemannia, describing the new signing’s style of play. “We had very good talks together, in which we were also completely won over by Gianluca’s personality.”

He has already been able to prove himself in training over the past few days and “felt very comfortable”, as Gaudino himself added. “I also had very constructive and good discussions with the people in charge. What I’m also looking forward to is the atmosphere at the Tivoli. I’ve heard a lot from the Alemannia fans and I’m really looking forward to experiencing it all for myself. “
