Former Borbeck, now U19 Bundesliga – district league club honored by the DFB

District league club SV Borbeck in Essen has trained a player as a youth player who now plays in the U19 Bundesliga. The SVB has now been honored for this.

While SV Borbeck’s first team is fighting to avoid relegation in the Kreisliga A ahead of the final matchday, the Essen-based Kreisliga club was honored last weekend for the training of a former youth player: We are talking about Nico Vidic.

The 17-year-old played for Borbeck as a youth player before his path led him to Borussia Mönchengladbach via ESG 99/06 and Rot-Weiss Essen in 2021. The midfielder developed into a regular for the young ‘foals’ and even became a German U16 international.

This season, the youngster really made a name for himself in the U19 Bundesliga and was directly involved in nine goals (2 goals, 7 assists) in the first eleven games for the second-placed team in the West Bundesliga. Since the end of November, however, the left-footer has been sidelined by a torn meniscus.

Vidic plays for the U19s under coach and former professional Oliver Kirch. However, he is already in regular contact with professional coach Gerardo Seoane and Eugen Polanski, who is in charge of the U23 team in the Regionalliga West. His big goal is of course the Bundesliga, but a path via the Regionalliga reserves is also quite conceivable for the central midfielder

I only have good memories of that time. My coaches were Candy Vohwinkel and Jürgen Hübner.

Back to his beginnings at SV Borbeck: The Essen club has now received 1700 euros from the DFB bonus system for its youth training and talent development. Vidic has not forgotten his roots, as he emphasized at the award ceremony: “I only have good memories of that time. My coaches were Candy Vohwinkel and Jürgen Hübner. Jürgen Hübner was also the person who influenced me the most during that time.”

SV Borbeck now has 14 youth teams and over 30 licensed coaches. All three E-youth teams finished first in their respective groups this season, and the D-youth team also played a strong round, finishing as runners-up.
