After his departure from 1. FC Heidenheim, Dzenis Burnic has found a new club. The former Dortmund player will stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.
After his contract with 1. FC Heidenheim ended, Dzenis Burnic has found a new club.
The 25-year-old, who trained with Borussia Dortmund and collected two appearances for the BVB professionals, will stay in the 2nd Bundesliga and join Karlsruher SC. This was announced by KSC on Monday, without giving details about the duration of the contract.
After Heidenheim and Dynamo Dresden, it is the third second-division stop for the central midfielder. “We are pleased to have Dzenis Burnic as a new signing who can be used variably in midfield. He is conceivable in our system both in the eight position and on the double six or as a sole six,” coach Christian Eichner is quoted as saying by the club about the new arrival.
Burnic comes from Hamm and came through the youth teams of BVB. Twice he was U19 champion with the Borussians, just as often he won the championship in the B-youth. He was part of the squad that won the DFB Cup in 2017.
Burnic played twice for the BVB professionals
However, the midfielder was not able to assert himself in Dortmund. He made his professional debut in the Champions League in 2016 and played twice for the Bundesliga team before being loaned to VfB Stuttgart and Dresden. In 2020, he moved permanently to Heidenheim. In the promotion season, Burnic played in 20 matches, mostly as a substitute.
Now he is continuing his career in Karlsruhe. Burnic brings with him the experience of 94 second division appearances (one goal, three assists). “I’m really looking forward to playing in this great stadium soon. With these fans behind me, it can only be good! I already noticed during my away games here that something really great is being created,” he says. “My talks with Christian Eichner were very positive. I’m looking forward to being here, to my new teammates, my coaching team and I just want to have fun!”
