David Sauerland, who has been club-less since 1 July 2023, has now found a new employer.
David Sauerland, who was most recently under contract with Regionalliga West club Alemannia Aachen, is returning to his training club and will strengthen the second team of SC Preußen Münster with immediate effect. The right-back convinced those responsible in the trial training.
“We are super happy that this has worked out. David is an insanely good footballer and at the same time a really good guy. He will compensate for the vacancy in the leadership group that arose after the departure of Marius Mause,” explained Münster’s U23 coach Kieran Schulze-Marmeling.
The 26-year-old Sauerland, who brings with him the experience of 98 regional league games and 15 third league matches, is looking forward to his new task on Hammer Straße. He says: “I am incredibly happy to be able to play football for my hometown again. As an older player, I’ll try to pass on a bit of my experience from the last few years to the boys.”
Sauerland trained with SC Preußen’s youth team and moved on to Borussia Dortmund’s U17s, where he subsequently also made the jump to the second team. He played 61 games for the BVB U23s in three years.
At his subsequent station Eintracht Braunschweig, the Münster native finally made 15 third-league appearances before returning to the Regionalliga to play for Rot-Weiss Essen (31 matches) and Alemannia Aachen (13 matches).
Because he has been out of contract since the summer of 2023, Sauerland, who can play on the right side in both defence and midfield, last appeared on the pitch in May. Therefore, it is particularly important for coach Schulze-Marmeling to be patient with the newcomer: “We will introduce him very carefully and build him up. As soon as he is in training with us, he will be a great support for both the players and me.”
Münster’s second team has nine points after five games in the Oberliga Westfalen – two wins and three draws.
