Second division club Hertha BSC released two players on Tuesday (22 August). Marco Richter and Suat Serdar.
After two years together, Hertha BSC will part ways for the time being: Suat Serdar will be loaned out to Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A for the current season.
According to Italian media reports, Verona have also secured a purchase option of five million euros. Serdar is under contract in Berlin until 30 June 2026.
“The opportunity has presented itself for Suat to move abroad for the first time in his career. He was keen to take advantage of this opportunity. We wish him all the best and much success for his time in Italy,” said Hertha’s sporting director Benjamin Weber. “I felt at home at the club and in Berlin and got to know special people. I wish Hertha and all the fans a successful season,” the 26-year-old commented.
The four-time German international played a total of 69 matches for the Blue and Whites – including one in the DFB Cup in the current round. The right-footer scored eight goals and set up four others.
Before his engagement in the capital, Serdar laced up his football boots for FC Schalke 04 (83 games, 11 goals, 6 assists) and FSV Mainz 05 (54, 3, 1). The stop in Italy, where he also meets former Hertha player Ondrej Duda, is now his first abroad.
Marco Richter moves to Mainz in the Bundesliga
Hertha also said goodbye to their second player in one day. The second-division club is transferring Marco Richter to 1. FSV Mainz 05 with immediate effect.
“The opportunity arose for Marco to play in the Bundesliga again. He was keen to take advantage of this and we found a fair solution in the end. We thank Marco for his tireless commitment to Hertha BSC and wish him all the best in his sporting career and in his private life,” commented sporting director Weber on the departure.
“They were two eventful years. I always enjoyed wearing this jersey and playing in front of the fans, so the relegation still hurts. I hope all the more that Hertha will quickly get back on track,” said Richter, saying goodbye himself.
The former DFB U21 international came to the Spree from FC Augsburg in August 2021. In 59 Bundesliga games, the native of Friedberg scored eleven times and set up another seven goals. In addition, he scored three goals in three appearances in the DFB Cup and made one appearance in the 2022/23 relegation. In the current season, he has another three matches to his name in the blue and white jersey.
