Former Offenbach manager to take stock of the situation

From 1. FC Düren, things are going like clockwork at the moment. They are in second place. But everything that happens off the pitch still has a lot of room for improvement. Here comes an expert.

On the pitch and in the standings, 1.FC Düren is right on target. Now, the second-placed team in the Regionalliga West is pushing ahead with the development of the club’s structures and has brought in professional expertise.

Matthias Georg, who most recently worked as managing director of sport at the top south-western clubs Kickers Offenbach and TSV Steinbach Haiger, will support 1. FC Düren as an advisor to the executive committee with immediate effect and initiate professional structures around the Westkampfbahn. The cooperation is initially agreed until the end of the year – 31 December 2023.

Georg is to carry out a kind of inventory of the existing and non-existing structures at 1. FC Düren and increase the quality of planning in all areas.

“We have always emphasised that we urgently need to develop on an administrative level as well. We are pleased that Matthias Georg will be assisting us with his experience over the next three months. He has nine years of experience in professional football. Initially, his work will focus on taking stock of all existing processes and creating transparency and efficiency in budget and liquidity planning,” explains FCD President Wolfgang Spelthahn.

The 36-year-old Georg did an excellent job in the last few years – 2014 to 2022 in Steinbach and in the 2022/2023 season in Offenbach. He shaped the village club Steinbach into one of the top addresses in the 4th league and in Offenbach he failed in the end due to the interference of the officials – Forecasting reported. Georg is considered professional, ambitious and straightforward – not least because of his consistent actions in Offenbach.

In Steinbach, Sargis Adamyan, Florian Heister (both then with SSV Jahn Regensburg) and most recently Paul Stock (SV Elversberg) and Jannes Wulff (VfL Osnabrück) also made the leap into the 2nd Bundesliga under his leadership.

About his commitment in Düren, family father Georg says: “I am looking forward to working with 1. FC Düren. Thanks to the excellent work of the team and staff with Boris Schommers at the helm, everything is going well. Now we are looking together at the processes and structures off the pitch in order to further professionalise the club. At the moment, I’m really enjoying the project-related work in football and I can get to know the club in this way and initiate sustainable development with my impulses. In this respect, the temporary cooperation until the end of the year is currently a win-win situation for both sides. “
