Former referee analyzes – twice unlucky, once very lucky, Bitter in focus

MSV Duisburg defeated SC Verl 4-2. However, referee Jarno Wienefeld did not have his best day, explains expert Babak Rafati. The fast-paced top match between MSV Duisburg and SC Verl was less than five minutes old when there were already two goals and a controversial moment. Lex Tyger Lobinger had given the Zebras an early lead (2nd minute).

Then Yari Otto prevailed against Aljaz Casar. The Duisburg player remained on the ground, Otto continued and initiated the quick 1-1 equalizer by Oualid Mhamdi (4th minute).

The first of three wrong decisions, explains former referee Babak Rafati on “liga3online.” “In midfield, Otto sticks his leg out to reach the ball but misses it. Instead, Otto’s outstretched leg trips his opponent Casar, who falls to the ground. That’s a foul, so a free kick should have been awarded. It was a wrong decision to let play continue and allow the subsequent goal.”

Shortly before the end, there was another controversial moment. Verls’ Jonas Arweiler played a high leg in a duel with Joshua Bitter. After 83 minutes, referee Jarno Wienefeld showed him a yellow card.
