Marc Unterberger, former third division coach of the current Bavarian regional league club Unterhaching, has found a new job. Marc Unterberger will take over the reigning Bavarian league runners-up with immediate effect, signing a contract until June 2027. The 37-year-old soccer coach is a Unterhaching veteran and most recently coached the suburban team in the 2024/25 third division season. “We are very happy that we finally have clarity here,” says Buchbach’s department head Georg Hanslmaier, relieved that after weeks of wrangling, the most important personnel issue has been resolved: “We wanted to remain true to our club philosophy and were looking for a coach who fits in with us.”
The Red and Whites have had no shortage of offers since Petrovic’s move to second division club SpVgg Greuther Fürth as assistant coach was announced, but the requirements for a village club in the fourth division are, of course, quite specific: Professional competence must go hand in hand with down-to-earthness – you need to be sensitive to meet the demands and at the same time have your ear to the ground.
“I’ve known Buchbach for a long time, of course, but the discussions with the people involved, which have been going on for some time, have been extremely positive. Buchbach is a great club,” says Unterberger, who is already looking forward to his new role after spending around 14 months at Unterhaching without being actively involved in daily training, but still had a contract that has now been terminated by mutual agreement.
“Marc was a key driving force in our youth academy for many years as a youth coach and played a major role in developing top talents such as Karim Adeyemi and Maurice Krattenmacher. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him once again for this. During his time as head coach, there were ups and downs until his departure in December 2024. We wish him all the best and every success in his new role in Buchbach,“ said Haching president Manfred Schwabl. ”We had already reached an agreement with Marc some time ago. And we are also convinced that he is really excited about the job, but there were still a few contractual details between the two clubs to be clarified, which took some time,“ said sporting director Andreas Bichlmaier, who is relieved that not only can plans be made for the rest of the season, but that the course can also be set for the 2026/27 season: ” Of course, we were looking for a coach who would be a hundred percent fit for Buchbach, which is not that easy. We can’t afford a full-time coach, but we do have our goals, of course. So this fits in very well with Marc’s life plans.”
The Red and Whites are currently in tenth place with 27 points and are twelve points ahead of the relegation zone. “The points didn’t come out of nowhere, so we have to keep it up. But we mustn’t forget that a change of coach always brings new energy,” says Unterberger, hoping for many more successes.
