KSV Holstein and Marco Komenda have agreed to an early contract extension.
Center back Marco Komenda, who has been playing for the Storks since July 2020, has extended his contract. He will thus continue to wear the Holstein jersey for the next two years, through June 2028.
“Marco has established himself as a key player on the field and within the team over the past few years,” emphasizes sporting director Olaf Rebbe, who is delighted with the early contract extension: “He has proven himself time and again, even after setbacks, and is a player we can always rely on on the field. His strength in one-on-one situations, dynamism, and mentality embody exactly the kind of soccer Holstein Kiel stands for. We’re delighted to be able to count on his consistency in the years ahead and to continue our journey together.“
Marco Komenda is also looking forward to his continued time at Holstein with great anticipation: ”I’ve been here for more than five years now and still feel completely at home in Kiel. The city has long since become my home. I identify with the club, the people, and the way soccer is lived at Holstein Kiel. It’s a strong sign and a good feeling to know that the club has confidence in me and that we were able to set things straight so early in the season. I want to continue giving my all on and off the field to contribute my part to our success.”
The Darmstadt native took his first steps in men’s soccer with Oberliga club Sportfreunde Siegen before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U23 team in the Regionalliga West.
From there, his path led him to SV Meppen, where he drew attention with strong performances in the 3. Liga. In the summer of 2020, he finally made the move to Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga. Since then, Komenda has played 94 competitive matches for KSV, including 19 Bundesliga appearances last season. The 28-year-old remains a regular in the Störche defense this season as well.
