Four players who have left Rot-Weiss Essen are still without a new employer. Sandro Plechaty, who played for RWE for four years, also has to be patient
Fabian Rüth, who is currently being introduced to former RWE coach Christian Neidhart in Offenbach, Björn Rother, Isaiah Young and Sandro Plechaty are the summer departures from Rot-Weiss Essen who have not yet found new challenges.
Plechaty was on the verge of signing for a third division club in recent weeks. “There were good talks with a third division club and the coach was also very positive towards me. But in the end, the club opted for another player,” explained the 26-year-old.
According to information from Forecasting, Plechaty had aroused the interest of FC Energie Cottbus and coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz. The promoted third division club ultimately decided against the ex-Essen player and opted for Henry Rorig (VfL Osnabrück).
However, Plechaty, who has proven his qualities in the Regionalliga, but also in the 3rd division, remains relaxed about finding a club. After all, he was in a similar situation in the summer of 2020. “I also recommended myself to Rot-Weiss Essen via a trial training session. I have no problem with that at all. I have to be patient and trust my advisor,” he explains in an interview with Forecasting.
In the end, it was a fifty-fifty decision. If I could have played three or four more games, it might have gone in my favor. But I respect the decision
Sandro Plechaty on the talks with RWE
104 games played for RWE by the right-back, who can also play in attack. In the 2021/2022 promotion season, he was one of the absolute top performers in the red-white team. In the 3rd division, he was then set back by a number of injuries. He made eleven appearances in the final series.
Even though Plechaty’s form was clearly on the up in the final stretch of the season, it was no longer enough for him to receive a new contract offer at Hafenstrasse.
“I had good talks with coach Christoph Dabrowski and sporting director Marcus Steegmann. Everyone expressed their point of view. In the end, it was a fifty-fifty decision. If I could have played three or four more games, it might have worked out in my favor. But I respect the decision. Similar to Cedric Harenbrock, a change of scenery is also good after a few years,” said the Lüner native.
Plechaty, who has 24 third division games (two goals, two assists) under his belt, would naturally prefer to stay in this division. But he is also considering a top regional league team or playing abroad. “We’ll just have to see what comes up,” says the quick and technically strong Plechaty, who remains calm.
After the final trip with the RWE team to Mallorca and a week-long vacation with friends in Ibiza, Plechaty is keeping fit with a personal trainer and hopes that he will soon be able to take part in team training somewhere.
In any case, he wishes RWE all the best. Plechaty: “RWE will always remain in my heart. Of course I follow everything that is written about Rot-Weiss. I had a very, very nice time, including the promotion and the DFB Cup trip. I hope that the upcoming team will inspire the fans as much as we did last season. Christoph Dabrowski’s style of play should definitely be retained. “
