Frankfurt move into the last 16 as group runners-up

Eintracht Frankfurt have gone straight into the last 16 of the Champions League in their debut season.

The Hessians won their last preliminary round match at Sporting Lisbon with 2:1 (0:1) and reached the next round with ten points as group runners-up behind Tottenham Hotspur (11). The Londoners also won 2-1 (0-1) at Olympique Marseille in the parallel Group D match.

Daichi Kamada (62nd, hand penalty) and Randal Kolo Muani (72nd) scored the third Royal League victory at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, while Arthur Gomes (39th) scored for the Portuguese side, who were eliminated from the Champions League. Eintracht will receive a bonus of 9.6 million euros for reaching the top 16. The draw will take place on 7 November and the round of 16 matches will be played between 14 February and 15 March 2023.
