SC Wiedenbrück wants to stay in the league again next season. The personnel planning for this project is already well advanced.
SC Wiedenbrück has been playing in the Regionalliga West since the 2020/21 season and, under coach Daniel Brinkmann, has now established itself as a permanent fixture in the fourth-highest division. To ensure that the coming season is also successful, SCW is already working diligently on the Regionalliga squad for 2023/24.
With Ben Hüning (Rot-Weiss Essen U19), Dominique Domröse (SV Rödinghausen), Francesco Di Pierro (SC Preußen Münster II), Cinar Sansar (Tebe Berlin), Benjamin Friesen (Kickers Emden), Imran Ali (1. FC Monheim), Steffen Rohwedder (SV Atlas Delmenhorst) and Iskender Aslan (own U19), the regional league team has already signed eight new players.
The ninth new signing is a player who already laced up his boots for SC Wiedenbrück in the past season: Maik Amedick. The 21-year-old defensive strategist was loaned to Wiedenbrück from Borussia Dortmund’s U23 in January 2022 and has now been signed permanently.
The SCW made the announcement on social media. “With the extension of Maik Amedick, we achieve the next coup. We can keep our top 5 defence from last season. Maik is a new signing from Borussia Dortmund II after his loan end,” the statement read.
Last season, Amedick developed into a key performer at Wiedenbrück and was in the starting eleven in 33 of the 34 league games. The centre-back, who was also used in defensive midfield, scored three goals. Only his defensive partner Tim Böhmer played more minutes (3006) than Amedick (2915). The 1.84-metre man was an important factor on the way to staying in the league.
Amedick played for Borussia Dortmund for seven years from 2015 to 2022 and was West German champion with BVB’s U17s in 2019. Because he did not get any match practice with the U23s in the 3rd division, he was loaned to SC Wiedenbrück, where the native of Paderborn first gained a foothold in senior football. Now it’s clear: Maik Amedick will also be playing at the Jahnstadion in the coming season.
