From the Regionalliga West – new sporting director is here

The FC Erzgebirge Aue is reorganising its personnel. In addition to a coach, the third division team was also looking for a sporting director. This was presented on Wednesday.

The former professional Matthias Heidrich returns to FC Erzgebirge Aue with immediate effect. The 44-year-old will assume responsibility as sporting director with immediate effect. This was announced by the third division club on Wednesday.

Heidrich, who was born in Hoyerswerda, played for the Veilchen from 2000 to 2005 and was part of the team that won promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga for the first time in Aue’s club history in 2003.

In recent years, Heidrich has worked for 1. FC Köln as head of the youth development centre and was also responsible for the Cologne’s Regionalliga West team.

On Friday, the second division relegated team, which is still waiting for its first win of the season in the 3rd division, will face SV Meppen. It is not yet clear whether a new coach will be on the bench. A successor for the dismissed Timo Rost has not yet been found. It remains to be seen whether those responsible at Auer already have a man up their sleeve or whether Heidrich will now hold further talks in an official capacity.

In any case, Florian Schnorrenberg (most recently Hallescher FC) and Alexander Schmidt (most recently Kickers Offenbach) – RevierSport reported – as well as ex-Aue coach Rico Schmitt, who worked for SV Meppen last season, were high on the list.
