The relegation-threatened second division club 1. FC Magdeburg has decided on the future of its coach Christian Titz.
Despite 17th relegation place: 1. FC Magdeburg has extended the contract with head coach Christian Titz beyond the current season. The new term was not communicated.
The 51-year-old became coach at the then third-division club on 12 February 2021. With him on the sidelines, the club first succeeded in staying in the third division and then in being promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2021/22 season.
In the 2020/21 season, FCM recorded nine wins, three draws and four defeats (1.88 points on average) in 16 third-league matches with Titz.
In the 2021/22 season, there were 24 wins, six draws and six defeats (2.17 points on average) in 36 third league games. In the current second division season, the club has five wins, two draws and ten defeats (1.00 points on average) in 17 games so far.
Titz took his first steps as a coach from 2000 to 2004 with the U-19 team of Alemannia Aachen. Via 1. FC Passau, he joined Viktoria Köln in 2009 and then stood on the sidelines at FC 08 Homburg from 2011 to 2014.
In July 2015, he moved to Hamburger SV, first coaching the U-17 team, then the 2nd team and finally the professional team of the Hanseatic city from March to October 2018. In the Bundesliga, he recorded four wins, one draw and three defeats in eight games for HSV. In the 2nd Bundesliga, it was five wins, three draws and two defeats in ten games. Before his move to the FCM, the 51-year-old was under contract with regional league side Rot-Weiss Essen from July 2019 to June 2020.
