Gentner becomes new sports director at VfB Stuttgart

Christian Gentner has been promoted at VfB Stuttgart. The two-time German champion has thus filled a vacant position.

Former professional footballer Christian Gentner has been promoted to sports director at Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. This was announced by the club. Gentner, who won the German championship with the Swabians in 2007, was previously head of the professional squad at Stuttgart. The position of sports director has been vacant since July 1. Prior to that, Fabian Wohlgemuth, who had been promoted to sports director, held the position.

“Everyone knows that VfB is not just any club for me. That’s why I’m all the more motivated to be successful with VfB,” Gentner said in a statement. CEO Alexander Wehrle added: ”Christian has all the prerequisites to fulfill this responsible task. With Fabian Wohlgemuth as director of sports and Christian Gentner as sports director, VfB is excellently positioned in two key positions.”

The former midfielder, who also won the German championship with VfL Wolfsburg in 2009, played in 430 Bundesliga matches (46 goals) for Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Union Berlin. He played in 373 competitive matches for VfB. Gentner ended his playing career in 2023 in Switzerland with FC Luzern.
