Germany out after 1-1 draw with South Korea – Morocco win over Colombia

Germany are out of the World Cup preliminary round after an effortful but ponderous game against South Korea. Morocco surprisingly win against Colombia and are through to the last 16.

Germany has been eliminated from the World Cup in Australia and South Korea after a 1-1 draw against South Korea. But after Morocco’s win against Colombia, South Korea will not advance to the round of 16 either. Morocco is through.

The South Koreans played surprisingly attacking from the start. Cho Sohyun scored the first goal in Brisbane in Germany’s last Group H match. Captain Alexandra Popp scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute to make it 1-1 with a header.

In the 73rd minute, the 32-year-old – the star of the DFB team – missed a goal-scoring opportunity.

A goal by Popp in the second half was first counted, but then taken back by the referee because of offside. Earlier, Alexandra Popp had collided with Kim Hye-ri and sprained her neck.

Overall, the German team played disappointingly. “The list of shortcomings is long” – said Claudia Neumann in the ZDF commentary.

Morocco wins against Colombia
At the same time, Morocco played against Colombia. Anissa Lahmari scored the first goal of the match in injury time of the first half.

At that point, it meant that Germany had to win no matter what in order not to be eliminated after the group stage or before the round of 16.

Nancy Faeser keeps her fingers crossed
