Gladbach II get sixth win in a row – Münster must keep scoring for promotion

Borussia Mönchengladbach continues to establish itself as the second strongest team in the Regionalliga West. The Borussians won 3:1 against Alemannia Aachen.

The chasing team Borussia Mönchengladbach II made the most of Preußen Münster’s match cancellation on Saturday and pushed the presumed promotion of the top team further back. The Foals won 3:1 (1:1) against Alemannia Aachen and extended their winning streak to six games.

Alemannia, on the other hand, have now waited three games for a win. The Aacheners had somewhat surprisingly taken the 1:0 lead through Frederic Baum (35th) in Borussia’s strong start. But before half-time, Semir Telalovic (41st) provided the more than deserved equaliser.

In the second half, it was Gladbach who scored first and tipped the game in their direction. Steffen Meuer (54th) first hit the aluminium after a long pass, but then converted his own follow-up shot. In the 64th minute, substitute Phil Beckhoff added the 3:1 – the decision.

With the win, Gladbach have temporarily moved within eight points of first place and Preußen Münster, although the leaders still have two games to play. Aachen drop to eighth place, but are only one point behind fourth.

Alemannia Aachen will be looking to end their little winless streak next weekend on Saturday (8 April, 2pm) against bottom side SV Straelen, while on Sunday Gladbach’s U23s will then be challenged by Fortuna Köln to continue their winning run.
