The data provider Opta has calculated the probability of which Bundesliga team will end up in which place at the end of the season. This is the prediction for Schalke, Bochum, BVB.
After the disappointing first half of the season, FC Schalke 04 had more than two months to collect themselves and prepare for the rest of the Bundesliga season.
However, the team did not succeed in spreading confidence in the surrounding area before the restart against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The performances in the test matches were too mixed, and the Revierklub has been too ponderous on the transfer market so far.
And a look at the statistics doesn’t give all Schalke players much hope either, at least if you go by a prediction of the data provider Opta. Opta has calculated the probability of which club will finish the season in which position. S04 is predicted to have a bleak future.
According to Opta, a direct relegation is extremely likely. At the end of the season, 85.9 per cent of Schalke will end up in one of the last two places, and 73.6 per cent of the Knappen will have to go down as bottom of the table.
Ahead of the league’s restart, Schalke are separated by five points from the relegation place and the first non-relegation places. According to the calculation, the chance that the club will make up this gap is slim. Only 6.1 per cent of Schalke’s chances are 16th place, and the probability of direct relegation is estimated to be even lower – 4.9 per cent.
The fans of VfL Bochum can be somewhat more optimistic about the rest of the season. However, according to the forecast, relegation is also the realistic scenario for Thomas Letsch’s team. The VfL has a 23.9 per cent chance of finishing the round in 17th place. The probability that the Bochum team will finish in one of the last two places is just under a third (32.6 per cent). Only slightly more likely is a direct league finish (30 per cent).
