The 8th matchday in the Oberliga Niederrhein clearly belonged to the teams from Essen. Schonnebeck and Kray celebrated their liberation, ETB attacked the top.
The 8th matchday of the Oberliga Niederrhein already began on Saturday at SC St. Tönis. There, KFC Uerdingen could not get beyond a 2:2. This gave Germania Ratingen the chance to pull away at the top. But the latter had not reckoned with FC Kray. Schonnebeck won spectacularly at home and ETB SW Essen moved up to second place in the table thanks to a late win.
Germania Ratingen – FC Kray 1:2
When you have to play the second-placed team in the table with two points from six games, the roles are clearly distributed. So Germania Ratingen went into the match against FC Kray as clear favourites. And at first, Martin Hasenpflug’s team did not let anything go to waste. It took just eleven minutes for Gianluca Silberbach to put the hosts in the lead. But after scoring 0:8 goals in the last three games, the Essen team did not want to give in so easily this time. In the second half, Boubakarry Fadika actually made it 1-1 with his third goal of the season, and FCK were not done yet. Joel Bema was on hand after 84 minutes to shock Germania Ratingen with the 2-1 winner. Kray sent out a sign of life from the bottom of the table and at the same time ensured that SSVg Velbert continued to pull away at the top.
SpVg Schonnebeck – VfB Hilden 4:3
One win and six defeats on the account put SpVg Schonnebeck in a similar situation to FC Kray on this matchday. Against VfB Hilden, who would have moved up to second place with a win, hardly anyone expected the Swallows. But a lightning double from Marwin Studtrucker turned the game on its head early on (5th/7th). Pascal Weber, however, brought VfB back into the game with his sixth goal of the season (9th). And the game continued. Kevin Kehrmann increased Schonnebeck’s lead to 3:1 (22nd), before Talha Demir tied the game again shortly afterwards (29th) and made the crazy first half hour perfect with five goals.
Studtrucker, who scored twice, had to leave the pitch before the break. He was replaced by Kingsley Sinclair, who was to play a special role on this day. But first Luca Majetic equalised for Hilden (54th) and paved the way for a thrilling final phase. And there, how could it be otherwise in this crazy football match, the underdog had the last word. The substitute Sinclair nodded in the very last corner of the game to make it 4:3 (90+5). After Uerdingen and Ratingen, Hilden also missed the chance to stay on top. The SpVg collect important points in the bottom of the table
FSV Duisburg – ETB SW Essen 2:3
So it was up to ETB to ensure the perfect Essen football day in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Damian Apfeld’s team, which had made a good start to the season, went into the match against last-place FSV Duisburg as favourites – and were immediately surprised. Joshua Kapenda gave FSV the lead (10th). It took a little while, but Noel Futkeu had the right answer before the break (37th). But the second half started almost identically to the first. This time it was Malik Tchalawou who put the underdogs in front after 56 minutes. ETB, however, came back quicker than at the beginning of the game. Giuliano Zimmerling made it 2:2 almost in return (63rd). And it got even better for the Essen team. In the 80th minute, Futkeu scored again to make it 3:2. Duisburg remains last, Schwarz-Weiß moves up to second place.
There was also a lot going on in the other places. 1. FC Monheim moved up to fourth place with a 2-1 win, SSVg Velbert turned around a 0-1 deficit and moved up at the top. Sportfreunde Baumberg moved off the relegation places with a late winner against TSV Meerbusch, TVD Velbert won confidently and TuRU Düsseldorf wrestled a point from promoted Sonsbeck in an underplayed game.
