FSV Duisburg have made their first winter addition. Goalscorer Oguz Karagüzel joins the team from the last team in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
FSV Duisburg is leaving no stone unturned in its fight to stay in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The club is currently in last place in the table with just eight points, 24 points behind the relegation zone. Nonetheless, the club’s management is making a big push.
They have signed another striker to improve their goal tally of just 19 goals in 20 games. Oguz Karagüzel comes to Warbruckstraße from Westfalen-Landesligisten Firtinaspor Herne.
Although his team is only in twelfth place, he is third in the league’s list of goal scorers with 13 goals from 14 games. Last season, he scored 20 goals and set up six others in 17 games for the club. He had also proved his scoring prowess for SSV Buer and in the A-youth team of SV Horst-Emscher.
Prior to this, those responsible had already presented a new coach. Guido Naumann returned to the club with which he had almost been promoted to the Oberliga in 2016. He had managed to pick up 50 points from 22 games and only lost twice. Nevertheless, he was separated from the club because his goals for the season were in jeopardy, and he was replaced by Günther Abel. On the last matchday of the season, Abel narrowly failed to win promotion in a direct duel against his former club VfB Homberg. After that, Naumann coached the Westfalen-Bezirksligisten VfB Hüls and SV Zweckel.
FSV Duisburg started the season with Luciano Velardi as head coach, who then resigned in mid-October after three and a half months in charge and 14 games (five puntke). Engim Kum then acted as interim coach until the winter, when Naumann will take over.
Meanwhile, Daisuke Kitahara has left the club. He made five appearances in the first half of the season.
