Bundesliga club VfL Bochum currently has four goalkeepers under contract. One goalkeeper is about to leave.
Manuel Riemann (35) is suspended and no longer has a sporting future at VfL Bochum despite having a contract until June 30, 2025.
Paul Grave, Patrick Drewes and Niclas Thiede are still possible candidates for the VfL goal. As Forecasting has now learned, Thiede at least will probably no longer be an issue in Bochum in the near future.
According to RS information, the 25-year-old is about to move to SSV Ulm 1846 in the 2nd Bundesliga. Thiede still has a contract with VfL until the summer of 2027, and VfL and SSV are currently discussing the terms – i.e. a possible loan or a permanent transfer. A solution should be found in the next few days.
After Patrick Drewes, who moved from Karlsruher SC to Castroper Straße this summer, VfL would then certainly be active on the goalkeeper transfer market once again. Drewes and Thiede are currently dueling for the number one position in Bochum. But the second-named will probably be the one in Ulm.
Thiede has not played a single game for VfL Bochum
Thiede moved from SC Verl to VfL Bochum in the summer of 2023 and has not been allowed to keep a single goal for VfL in the Bundesliga. His only appearance in League One dates back to October 19, 2019 – still in the SC Freiburg jersey
Born in Hagen, he trained at SSV Hagen, followed by junior spells at FC Iserlohn and NLZ spells at Borussia Dortmund, Rot-Weiss Essen and VfL Bochum (2015 to 2018). He then moved to SC Freiburg’s U23s in the summer of 2018 and was loaned out to SC Verl three years later. In the 2022/2023 season, he then became one of the best third division keepers and was able to recommend himself for a contract at VfL Bochum.
Thiede can look back on a total of 56 appearances (89 goals conceded) in the 3rd division. This could soon be followed by appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga – for the reigning third division champions SSV Ulm 1846.
