Goalkeeper change – regular keeper leaves, former VfL goalkeeper signs

Alemannia Aachen has made a change in the goalkeeper position. Jan Olschowsky’s loan has been terminated early, and the third division club is bringing in a keeper with plenty of experience.

Alemannia Aachen and goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky are going their separate ways. The third division club announced this on Tuesday evening. The 24-year-old’s loan has been terminated prematurely.

Olschowksy is returning to his home club Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he is set to take on the role of substitute goalkeeper following the departure of regular number two Jonas Omlin to Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old had returned to the Black and Yellows in the summer after already playing for the Kaiserstädter on loan in the second half of the previous season. In total, the goalkeeper played in 38 competitive games as the Kaiserstädter’s number one, keeping eight clean sheets. “We would like to express our sincere thanks to Jan for his performances in the Alemannia jersey. We would have liked to have him with us until the end of the season, but we are prepared for his departure and will present a solution in the near future,” explains Rachid Azzouzi, Alemannia’s sporting director. Olschowsky also looks back on his time at Tivoli with positive words: “I had a great time here in Aachen and will miss the team, the fans, and the Tivoli. I would especially like to thank my goalkeeper coach Ivica Ljubicic. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Alemannia in the second half of the season and am convinced that they will succeed in staying in the league.”

Olschowsky’s successor found – Manuel Riemann joins the Kaiserstadt team

Immediately after the announcement that Olschowsky would be leaving the club, Alemannia promptly presented his replacement: Manuel Riemann has signed a contract with the Kaiserstadt team. The 37-year-old successfully completed his medical on Tuesday and will therefore play for Aachen in the second half of the season. Riemann brings with him experience from a total of 464 games in German professional soccer. He has played 117 games in the 3rd division, 249 in the 2nd Bundesliga and 98 in the Bundesliga. The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in 145 games. Riemann played most of his games for VfL Bochum, for whom he played from 2015 to 2025 and celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga in 2021, among other things. Last season, he was also under contract with SC Paderborn in the 2nd Bundesliga. Riemann is particularly known for his strength in dealing with opponent penalties: in the Bundesliga, he saved eleven out of 23 attempts.

“In Manuel Riemann, we are gaining a very experienced goalkeeper for our goalkeeping team. He knows all three German professional leagues from his own experience and brings exactly the calmness and stability we need in the second half of the season. We are convinced that he will strengthen our team both athletically and with his personality,” says Rachid Azzouzi, Alemannia’s sporting director.

Riemann is also looking forward to his new role: “I am very excited to be playing for Alemannia from now on. The club stands for tradition and passion. I can’t wait to get to know my teammates and work with them towards a successful second half of the season.”
