Wuppertaler SV is letting a talented goalkeeper move to Dortmund. There, 19-year-old Joel Nickel will play in the Oberliga Westfalen.
Wuppertaler SV will enter 2023 without junior keeper Joel Nickel. The 19-year-old will leave coach Hüzeyfe Dogan’s team during the winter break and move to ASC Dortmund in the Oberliga Westfalen.
Nickel joined the WSV’s U16s from Fortuna Düsseldorf’s youth team in 2019. Since the summer of 2022, the native of Hagen has trained with the regional league team, but did not make any appearances.
Stephan Küsters, sporting director in Wuppertal, wished Nickel all the best for his future. “Joel should gain playing practice. We will keep an eye on him and would be happy to see him back at the Stadion am Zoo in the future.”
Another factor in favour of the move was probably the fact that the WSV had three goalkeepers above the 19-year-old in the hierarchy: Sebastian Patzler, Michele Cordi and Franz Langhoff.
