Alexander Schwolow has found a new club: After his loan to Schalke 04 and the termination of his contract with Hertha BSC, the goalkeeper remains in the capital.
Champions League contender Union Berlin has signed Schalke’s former keeper Alexander Schwolow, completing its goalkeeping team. This was announced by the Bundesliga soccer club on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old had most recently been under contract with city rivals Hertha BSC, where his employment contract was terminated by mutual agreement after the relegation of the Old Lady.
“Alex is a seasoned Bundesliga goalkeeper,” said Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert: “Despite his recent not easy situation, he was quick to accept the challenge Union to find back to old strength himself. With the necessary patience, we are sure that this will succeed and he will increase our options.”
Before his move to Hertha, Schwolow had stood between the posts in the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg. Last season, he was loaned out to league rivals Schalke 04, with whom he was unable to stay in the league. Schwolow, who was born in Wiesbaden, has played a total of 199 Bundesliga games to date.
