Goals for 2024? Niederrheinpokal victory and a top-three finish in the Regionalliga

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is on a good run. The many draws have prevented RWO from doing even better.

Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is ten points behind leaders 1. FC Bocholt. At first glance, it seems like a gaping chasm. But at second glance, the gap is put into perspective. That’s because RWO has two games in hand on Bocholt and their closest pursuers, Aachen.

In other words, if RWO wins the catch-up games at Borussia Mönchengladbach II and SSVg Velbert, then the clovers would be within four points and in the thick of the action. The RWO coach is well aware of this.

Jörn Nowak on……

the first half of the season for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: “I think that we are basically on the right track. Individually, we have seen good developments. Some players have taken a step forward. Before the season, we set ourselves a two-point average and unfortunately we are behind that, but it would have been possible. Especially in the 0-0 games we had, we could have scored three times, maybe even had to. We were the better team there. But the development is definitely positive for us.”

… the best moment of the last round? “The home game against Aachen was special. Especially the first half, where everything actually worked out. The ball recoveries were strong and we were very efficient. We went into halftime with a 4-0 lead. Added to that, the whole setting with the floodlit game and the large number of spectators. That was definitely the highlight of the first half of the season.”

We’re also in the semi-finals of the Niederrhein Cup. We have to take the next step and go for the final, and anything is possible. A cup win would be great for the whole club, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.

.. the worst moment of the first half of the season? “That was the 2-2 equalizer against SC Wiedenbrück in stoppage time. Exactly the same thing happened to us as on matchday 2 against Velbert. It’s very annoying. Because this same mistake cost us two points again. So we’ve already given away four points in these two games alone.”

… the goals for 2024: “We start again on January 4. We will work hard and want to finish in the top group. It’s a very close group and anyone can beat anyone. The previous games have proven that. We want to be up there with the leaders until the end. It’s about continuing and pushing forward with the good development. Then we’ll see how the table looks at the end. We are also in the semi-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup. Our aim is to reach the final and then anything is possible. A cup win would be great for the whole club, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.”
