Striker Davin Wöstmann is considered the life insurance for Victoria Clarholz with his goal rate this season. A contract extension is still pending.
At the weekend, Victoria Clarholz reached a milestone in their quest to stay in the Oberliga Westfalen, winning the important six-point game at bottom-of-the-table FC Brünninghausen 2:1 (1:0). Once again, TSV attacker Davin Wöstmann was successful in front of goal.
The 25-year-old headed home a free-kick to make it 2-0 at the interval and summed up the game after the final whistle: “We played a brutal 20 minutes and deserved to take the lead. What we didn’t set out to do was to let ourselves down afterwards, because we actually wanted to play 90 minutes of full-throttle soccer. Fortunately, I added a goal at exactly the right moment after the break, which was really important at that stage. We threw ourselves into it until the end, hardly conceded anything and deserved to win.”
Curious: Four years ago, Wöstmann was still playing in the Kreisliga A with his buddies. He then made the leap to the Oberliga via the Bezirksliga to Westfalia Rhynern. There he initially needed some time to get up to speed. With the move to Clarholz at the start of the season, the attacker wanted to take the next step and mature into a leading player.
He finally achieved this breakthrough in East Westphalia. In the meantime, Wöstmann has long since “arrived in the top division” and has developed into a life insurance policy for his club. Despite a mixed season for Victoria, Wöstmann is considered one of the most dangerous goalscorers in the competition with 13 goals in 26 games this season. This rate certainly arouses the desire of other clubs
It is not yet clear whether Clarholz will be able to count on the services of their attacking player next year. “My future is not yet clear,” revealed Wöstmann. However, he is leaning towards extending his contract: “I’m currently in talks – mainly with Clarholz. I can well imagine staying. There’s nothing more to say at the moment.”
“Want to beat Wattenscheid” – relegation is imminent
The league in which TSV will continue to play is certainly not unimportant for this decision. After last Sunday’s success, everything looks set for relegation. With 28 points, head coach Christopher Hankemeier’s team are 15th in the table – a promising situation with four games remaining and a six-point buffer to the relegation places.
“The competition has faltered, which is why we were able to pick up big points recently. Looking at the table, that was obviously great. Nevertheless, we still have to keep pushing and maybe pick up a point or two. Anyone can beat anyone in the Oberliga. We don’t want to let the teams below us get any closer,” said Wöstmann, looking ahead to the final spurt of the season.
Next week, the East Westphalians will host SG Wattenscheid 09 (May 5, 3 p.m.), a direct rival in the basement of the table. SGW won the first leg 3:1. Striker Wöstmann is demanding revenge:
“We’re coming up against a very strong team. That usually plays into our hands because we can counter them as an aggressive team. We have to have a good day for that because their quality speaks volumes. We want to take the momentum with us and beat Wattenscheid. “
