That’s good news for KFC Uerdingen: The Oberliga club has found a solution for its training sessions under floodlights.
“I’m delighted that we’ve finally found a solution. Because that wasn’t a good situation until now,” Marcus John told Forecasting on Thursday evening, relieved.
What had happened? KFC Uerdingen will be able to train at the SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen grounds at Covestro Sportpark during the winter months. This means that the fifth-placed team in the Oberliga Niederrhein has finally found a solution for its training sessions under floodlights.
The two clubs have reached an agreement to this effect, which is set to take effect from December 1 at the latest and will run until the end of March 2024, following mediation by the city of Krefeld.
“It’s a good signal that the sports family stands together in such cases,” says City Director and Head of the Sports Department Markus Schön, who also personally campaigned for this solution. “The two clubs have approached each other in an exemplary manner and have jointly dispelled previous concerns. This helps KFC Uerdingen in the current difficult situation and will hopefully give the team a boost in the fight for points in the top division.” At Löschenhofweg, KFC will be provided with a grass pitch with floodlights under its own care.
As long as we don’t have our own permanent training ground, this option is practical and helpful for us. Our team will find good conditions at SC Bayer and we will prove to be grateful guests
Marc Schürmann, first chairman of KFC Uerdingen
In recent weeks, KFC Uerdingen’s Oberliga team had been training at SV Oppum’s pitch in the evenings. As there were no floodlights there, the city had set up several mobile masts, but these did not produce the best results. “We have therefore decided to stand by KFC Uerdingen as a colleague, although it means an enormous effort for us and can therefore only be a temporary solution,” emphasizes Jörg Heydel, Chairman of SC Bayer.
“We are the largest children’s and youth sports club in the city, and youth has absolute priority for us in terms of infrastructure use. However, the existing cooperation with KFC Uerdingen in the youth sector has worked well so far. In close consultation with all those involved and with the grateful help of the Grotenburg Supporters, this has made it possible to come together in solidarity for the moment.”
KFC chairman Marc Schürmann is also pleased: “The situation has improved noticeably recently thanks to additional masts and the new alignment of the floodlights, but the cooperation with SC Bayer is currently the absolute ideal solution for us.”
Schürmann continues: “As long as we don’t have our own permanent training ground, this option is practical and helpful for us. Our team will find good conditions at SC Bayer and we will prove to be grateful guests. “
